We urgently need a soccer Indaba

Our region is stuck for too long now after Vaal Professional was relegated from top-flight football.

SEDIBENG.- Regardless of individual accolades, Sedibeng football seems to be stuck in the field of play, to say the least.

SAFA Sedibeng President, Solly Mkhabela, was recently appointed as the Head of SuperSport United CAF Confederation Cup delegation for all the club’s fixtures, however, the failure of the Sedibeng region to produce another an ABC Motsepe League team has overshadowed his achievement as the regional president.

Real Hearts FC failed to gain promotion to the ABC Motsepe League, the club represented Sedibeng at Gauteng Inter Promotion Play-offs recently.

What does this mean for Sedibeng football?

It means this region will be without a ABC Motsepe League team once again. If as a region we fail to produce a fourth division team what about a PSL club? This is because this region has developed a bad culture or habit of buying statuses and now it is difficult to earn a place rightfully. The only way to have an ABC Motsepe League team in our region is to buy the statuses.

It seems to be mission impossible to have an ABC Motsepe League team, as things stand, despite all the talent we have in this region. However, as individuals this region, has done exceptionally well but collectively we have failed dismally to make an impact in South African football since the days of the now-defunct Vaal Professionals.

TOUCHLINE at one stage suggested that there is a need for this region to have an urgent Soccer Indaba to sit around the table to discuss the future of our football in this region. As a football region, we must produce our own Football Blue Print that will guide the region.

As things stand, our region is stuck for too long now after Vaal Professional was relegated from top-flight football. TOUCHLINE doesn’t have to remind you of the top football this region produced in the past but now we fail to produce just a fourth-division team.

TOUCHLINE had a very interesting conversation with one of the coaches known as Coach Vince that the future of Sedibeng football is in the hands of the tournament organizers. This is where our football is heading with tournaments taking place every weekend in our region.

Your truly self-appointed Minister of Sports suggested that tournaments can be used to scout the best talent and put a team together that will compete in the ABC Motsepe League or Motsepe Foundation Championship. This can be the only way that we can have a professional soccer team in this region because the attempt via promotion has failed many times.

There is no more hope that this region will one day have a professional soccer team as things stand.

My point is that over the weekend I attended the ‘Don’t Do Crime’ Winter Tournament at James Ground in Sharpeville, it was talent galore on display. Those players can walk into any PSL club’s starting lineup. Vaal is blessed with talent unfortunately our biggest challenge is the inability to have a professional soccer team.

There is a serious need to have a soccer Indaba, to sit around the table to discuss the future of Sedibeng football (formerly Vaal Triangle).
