Local coach leads Gauteng school’s team to victory

They proved that Gauteng Is the Home of Champions with that outstanding performance. 

SEDIBENG.- Safa Sedibeng Regional Head Coach, Thulani “Japan” Mthimkulu led the Gauteng team to victory during the 2023 School Winter Ball Games Champions.

This was after Gauteng beat Eastern Cape 3-0 in the final held in Benoni last Thursday.

Mthimkhulu was tasked with the responsibility to coach the selected Gauteng school squad for this annual Winter Ball Games, and he didn’t disappoint. The tournament saw the nine provinces battle it out for this Winter Ball Games trophy.

The tournament was divided into two streams and played in the points system with Gauteng and Eastern Cape in the same group before they met in the final. In the group stages, Gauteng beat the Eastern Cape 3-1. This was before they beat them again in the finals to be crowned the tournament champions.

Mthimkulu is one of the development coaches who has been instrumental in the development of football in Sedibeng for quite some time now, he is now the Technical Head of Safa Sedibeng.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mthimkhulu said he was proud to coach such a talented team, and winning the 2023 Winter School Ball Games was the cherry on top. He believes that Gauteng is the best province not only in football but also in other sports.

“I’m really proud of these boys’ performance throughout the tournament. They gave 100% performance from the first game to the last game. They proved that Gauteng Is the Home of Champions with that outstanding performance. They didn’t just win the tournament but they did it in style by playing exciting football throughout the tournament,” said Mthimkhulu.
