Former Midvaal mayor’s party registers with IEC

"We need new leadership for a better South Africa, leadership with integrity."

SEDIBENG.- Former Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) Executive Mayor and ActionSA Gauteng Chairperson, Bongani Baloyi’s new political party has finally been registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)

Xiluva, a Political Party founded by Baloyi after his departure from ActionSA late last year will appear on the ballot paper in 2024. Baloyi jumped ship from ActionSA after party leader, Herman Mashaba, apparently removed him as the party’s Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, offering to appoint him as Spokesperson instead.

Baloyi is said to have seen this as a demotion and preferred to leave ActionSA.

Baloyi was the Executive Mayor of the MLM when he was a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) before joining ActionSA. Launching Xiluva earlier this year, Baloyi said his party would create opportunities for young people to lead the country, citing that it was time for post-ANC-dominance.

“Xiluva was born out of a sense of political hopelessness, homelessness, and desperation. Xiluva is founded on the values of family, ubuntu, community, and most importantly, multiracialism. This is a fundamental departure from the status quo of the body politics of our country,” said Baloyi.

He further added that it will provide a natural alternative, led by a capable new breed of ethical leaders, and that having registered with the IEC, Xiluva will launch its foundational documents on 19 July 2023, at a venue yet to be confirmed.

The party aims:

  • To register in all Universities and TVET Colleges so that it can contest student

representative elections

  • To collect the requisite signatures from registered voters so that it can meet the IEC threshold to contest all provinces in 2024

“The party’s support has grown significantly since its announcement. This indicates that the people of South Africa want to change the direction this country is heading in. We need new leadership for a better South Africa, leadership with integrity,” said Baloyi.
