We are a generation that fails the young ones!

For them it is all about PR excise.

SEDIBENG.-  The was a hive of sporting activities that took place during the month of June as part of celebrating Youth Day, but the reality is that, after that, nothing happens until next year.

I think these are some of the things that need our serious attention, why people think of sport only when it is June or Youth Day. Why companies and businesses don’t invest in the development of our sport throughout the year?

TOUCHLINE is of the opinion that companies and businesses only show interest in sponsors or organizing sporting activities on Youth Day, they don’t have interest in the growth of our sports. For them it is all about PR excise, it has nothing to do with the development of our sport.

Those development sporting clubs don’t only need to be surprised during Youth Day but they need financial support throughout the year. This is the biggest challenge development faces with a lack of financial support when needed most.

Those who organize, sporting activities only when it is Youth Day must know that sports are played every day or weekend.  The same can be said about those companies and businesses that are only interested in financing the tournaments. We have a serious problem in this country with big cooperates using sport, especially football to promote their brand but with no sustainability.

Some of those Youth Day sporting programs are supposed to take place throughout the year with financial support not only on Youth Day. We are a generation that fails the young ones! For example, Youth Day has lost its meaning with some individuals having abused this historical event in the history of our country.

We also fail those who died fighting for our rights and freedom, especially the young people of 1976, Soweto Uprising. This is the reason why we celebrate Youth Day in honour of those young people who stood up to fight for our rights.

Young people out there deserve better not only when it is Youth Day but throughout the year. It is not a secret that many young people are unemployed regardless of their qualifications. Sports can be used as a tool to end the big number of unemployment of young people in this country. However, we are not going to achieve that as a country as long as those companies and businesses use sports for their PR excises to promote their companies at the expense of our sports.

For years now, TOUCHLINE has been told that some companies or businesses use sport for tax purposes.

Hell no!
