Ama-2000 are just a lazy bunch… that’s it!

Although the younger generation is much more technologically advanced than some of us, their parents, the lot that was born in 2000 and thereafter are an endless headache.

SEDIBENG. – This Friday, June 16, South Africa celebrates Youth Day.

This is a day in which South Africans honour the youth that was ambushed by the apartheid regime police in Soweto on 16 June 1976. On the day, over 500 young people, including school students, were killed for their protest against being taught in Afrikaans. Among the first children killed were 15-year-old Hastings Ndlovu, and 12-year-old Hector Pieterson.

Today we have the youth that has forgotten all about their history, that has forgotten all about who they are, and we have young people that are just lazing around. They are aptly called Ama-2000 because most were born in or after the year 2000 ( some in the late ’90s).

They have never faced any hardships.

Ama-2000, the new generation, the future leaders, the next crop of parenthood, call them whatever you would like, they are nothing but a lazy lot!

I personally, might not be an ‘Old Mutual’ (that old), but I am old enough to know that a lot of the new generation of the people that we are supposed to be believing in, that would take the country forward, is just simply lazy.

I was recently paging through one of my favourite newspapers, and a reader’s letter caught my eye. The letter caught my eye because I am 100 percent in agreement with its contents. I agree that although the younger generation is much more technologically advanced than some of us, their parents, the lot that was born in 2000 and thereafter are an endless headache.

It is true that these young guys and girls have everything on a silver platter, yet they do not dare put in an effort. I am also in agreement that they live on their own planet where they chose to belittle, criticize and oppose whatever comes their way, yet they are always ready to receive ‘manna from heaven’ in the form of petty grants from the government.

It is true that they want things their way, as they dictate terms and conditions.

For Ama-2000 getting an education is just a mere formality. They have scholar transports, lunch boxes plus lunch money yet their schools are just a mere meters away from their homes. Ama-2000 do not eat just anything, they hate mala-mogodu, and they do not eat chicken feet. They eat only Pizza, fried food (lots of fried food), and takeaways.

Young people in the past made an effort and tried hard to be where they are and to have what they have, but young people today are nothing but lazy and they are getting lazier by the minute, and that is my true opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

The decisions that the youth make today around their lives, self-development, employment, and even studies lead to even worse laziness if we do not do something about the situation. I believe they should be reminded of the hardships that were faced by the youth of 1976 and they will come to their sense.

They should wake up and smell the coffee!
