Former Metro and Kaya FM DJ laid to rest

Originally from Evaton, he played a pivotal role in putting the Vaal on the entertainment industry map.

SEDIBENG. – Quincy Kekana (59), renowned as “The only Q” of the radio, was laid to rest yesterday, Friday, in Three Rivers, in a ceremony attended by celebrities, politicians, media personalities, and members of the Sedibeng community.

The funeral service took place at the Vereeniging Civic Hall. Kekana, a former Metro and Kaya FM DJ, had a significant impact on people’s lives through his unique charm and talent. Originally from Evaton, he played a pivotal role in putting the Vaal on the entertainment industry map. Also, a former VUT FM Manager, Kekana mentored numerous radio personalities, including Motseki Mabuya, who now works at Lesedi FM.

Additionally, he served in the Communications Department of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) under the leadership of former Mayor Dikeledi Tsotetsi. Mabuya expressed that Kekana will be remembered as one of the best radio DJs and managers who nurtured many young talents in the radio industry.

The emotional funeral was attended by Kekana’s former colleagues from Metro FM, Kaya FM, VUT FM, and the ELM. Stan Bodibe, a former colleague of Kekana’s at Metro FM said that Kekana was far ahead of his time in radio. Notable celebrities, including 702 FM presenter Nonn Botha, paid their last respects to this legendary radio figure.

Speakers at the event described Kekana as a gifted and charismatic personality behind the microphone, with a unique voice that captivated listeners and that his presence and talent will be deeply missed in the radio industry.

Kekana leaves behind his wife Seitsana and four children.
