Family shocked by Mzambiya’s alleged murder

Mzambiya's body was found near the George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville.

BOPHELONG. – The family of 35-year-old Sipho Morris Roberts popularly known as ‘Mzambiya’ says his death came as a shock. It is alleged that Roberts was stabbed and killed in Sharpeville recently.

The family was alerted after Sipho’s body was found near the George Thabe stadium in Sharpeville on Saturday night , 03 June.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, his cousin Phumzile Roberts (28) said she last saw Sipho on Saturday afternoon.” Sipho and I lived together in Boipatong. On Saturday he told me that he was hanging out with a family friend just meters away from our house. Later I saw them leaving in a motor vehicle and that was the last time I saw him.

Sipho Morris Roberts (35) was allegedly killed recently in Sharpeville.

“He did not come back on Saturday and on Sunday. On Monday morning I received a visit from police officers who told me that he was found dead.”

Phumzile said that details around Sipho’s death were very sketchy as they were hearing a lot of stories from people. “I really cannot say for sure what happened to him. All that I know is that I am deeply hurt by his murder. He was a good person, loved by the community. You would never hear anything bad about him or people saying that he had been involved in a fight. I hope that the police will catch whoever did this because as a family, we need justice.”

Sipho’s mother Josephine Senatla (61) said hearing about her son’s death devastated her. “Sipho loved making jokes and making everyone around him laugh. We are going to miss him a lot. We are hurt that he was taken away from us in this manner and we hope the police will bring the person responsible to book,” she said.

Sedibeng Ster has sent an inquiry to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
