Midvaal welcomes netball world cup trophy

During the event, MEC Mosupyoe promised that Midvaal Local Municipality will receive 2 combination courts to further promote and develop netball in the area.

MIDVAAL. -Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) welcomed the Netball World Cup Trophy at Sicelo Community Hall recently.

Sedibeng Netball Federation Marketing Manager, Refilwe Mokoka announced that the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour would visit various places including Sicelo Stadium in Meyerton, Zone 3 Stop Sign, Skosana Stop sign in Adams Road, Zone 11 Post Office and Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng.

MMC for Community Services, Thembi Modiba says: “This is the first time in the history of the Netball World Cup that the event will take place on the African continent. The Trophy is currently touring the country, and the Gauteng leg of the Trophy Tour kicked off on May 29, 2023, with its second day including Midvaal Local Municipality. The Trophy and its delegation were met with excited community members and netball teams.”

Modiba together with the Executive Mayor of (MLM) Peter Teixeira welcomed the delegation at the event, expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to host the Netball World Cup Trophy Tour and their commitment to supporting the growth of netball in the region.

The delegation of the day included the MEC for the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Morakane Mosupyoe, the President of Netball South Africa, Cecilia Molokwane, the President of Gauteng Netball, Khosi Dlamini, and the Chairperson of Sedibeng Netball, Fakazile Nkitseng.

The Netball World Cup Trophy Tour continues its journey across the country, building anticipation for the upcoming tournament in Cape Town.
