Weapons, cigarettes, and drugs found at Sebokeng School during raid

A toy gun, drugs, weapons and ARV pills, these are some of the things confiscated by police during an unannounced search at Technical Secondary School in Sebokeng, Zone 13.

SEBOKENG – Sebokeng police together with the newly established Crime Prevention Wardens unit raided Sebokeng Technical High School on Friday, 02 June.

The random search saw dozens of weapons including knives, scissors, a toy gun, drugs, and cigarettes seized.

Law enforcement agencies pounced on unsuspecting pupils at the school and started searching them in the early hours of the morning, just after their assembly.

While police and law enforcers pounced on them, some pupils ran for cover and others threw their illegal things on the ground.

According to Sedibeng District Municipality Assistant Manager: Crime Prevention, Peter Kele confirmed the raid on his social media platforms.

“Police and Wardens engaged with the hot massive random school search at Sebokeng Technical at Zone 13. Amongst the various illegal things confiscated were serious drugs, and weapons including a toy gun which is very dangerous. The confiscated gun can cause danger to teachers and other learners if used to hit them,” he added.

Kele said the raids by law enforcers will be continued not only in schools but in spaces where youngsters gather after school and over the weekend.

“The Sedibeng Community Safety Forum Stakeholders will forever target and prioritize the school including open spaces where proliferation of guns and drugs are rife. Areas such as Zone 11 park are some of the hot spots our officers will be targeting. Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14 is also included,” he said.

Kele commended the new crime-fighting unit for doing a good job since their arrival in the region.

“Our Crime Prevention Wardens are doing important and good work within our Society and should be applauded for such. Since their arrival, they have been on the ground doing wonders in curbing crime,” he said.
