Former ward councillor’s nephew stabbed and killed

Tatae was allegedly attacked, stabbed, and killed outside a local tavern by unknown suspects.

SHARPEVILLE. – The Tatae family is reeling in shock following the gruesome murder of Taedi Teddy Tatae (31).

Tatae was allegedly attacked, stabbed, and killed outside a local tavern by unknown suspects.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster at the family home in Tshepiso Phase 3, his uncle and former ward 13 councillor Bobby Tatae says, “We had a tombstone unveiling on Saturday (27 May) and everything went well. Taedi left and went home and when he got home, there was no electricity, that is when decided to go to a local tavern known as Doctor’s Tavern in Rooistene.

“We are told that two men kept on provoking Taedi but because he was not a person who liked to fight, he ignored them. He was attacked as he was heading to his car. He was hit with a bottle on the head and subsequently stabbed in the neck.

“I received a call in the early hours of Sunday morning alerting me of the incident and on my arrival at the scene, he had already succumbed to the stab wound on his neck.”

Tatae says the entire family is devastated because Teddy was the pillar of his family.

“He was starting his life. He was working at Arcelor Mittal. We paid Lobola for his wife in December and currently, they were looking for a house. This is someone who looked after his family very well and to have him die in this manner is very painful.”

Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that a murder case is being investigated.

“The man was certified dead at the scene. Police are hunting for the suspect who is still at large.”
