SAPU Gauteng condemns police murder

“We would like to reiterate our call to the President of the country to declare police killing treason."

BOPHELONG. – The South African Policing Union (SAPU) Gauteng has condemned the recent murder of a police officer in Bophelong.

It is said that on Friday, 19 May at about 22:00 in Mvumvu Street, Bophelong a police officer from the Crime Intelligence Sedibeng was shot by two unknown men and died on the scene. South African Policing Union (SAPU) Gauteng Provincial Secretary, Mogale Mmutle said that the officer’s service pistol was also missing and that the state motor vehicle he was driving was found abandoned down the road.

Mmutle added that as SAPU Gauteng they are concerned over the increasing killings of their members in the province.

“We would like to reiterate our call to the President of the country to declare police killing treason and to the Minister of the Police to reintroduce the Specialized units and further we request our communities to come forth with information to assist the police to arrest these suspects. Our heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and friends on the loss of their loved ones and our members.”

The suspects are still at large and SAPU has called for them to face the law and to receive harsher sentences if found guilty.
