Police probe into murders of ELM health inspector and wife

BOIPATONG. – The alleged murders of Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Chief Environmental Health practitioner Amos Gumede and his wife, have sent shock waves through the Vaal Triangle.

The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered on Friday morning, 26 May at their home in Boipatong.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster on Saturday, 27 May, Gumede’s brother Mabuza Gumede said the family is blank.

“We don’t know what led to this gruesome incident,” he said.

ELM Health Inspector Amos Gumede was allegedly killed at his home.

“We are still waiting for the police to give feedback. We don’t know anything.”

Speaking about his younger brother, Mabuza described him as a jolly somebody.

“He was a jolly somebody. I have never heard of him fighting with anyone. He was admitted to Hospital on Monday and discharged on Thursday. On Friday morning, we received calls alerting us of what had happened.

“I’m heartbroken. My brother never said anything so we don’t have a clue. We are perplexed. He is my brother and I’m going to miss him because he is my brother. As a family, we hope that justice will be served.”

Gumede has been described as someone who loved his job and worked diligently.

In a statement, Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “Police attended a complaint where and on arrival found a female victim lying on the floor. Another victim, a man was found inside the house with a gunshot wound.”

According to Nevhuhulwi, one of the rooms in the house was ransacked but there was no indication that anything was stolen.

“The circumstances that led to these gruesome murders are unknown and investigations are underway,” she said.
