Maritzburg United has got the PSL with their balls!

It is a common practice not only in South Africa but the whole world that the crucial games of the last season play simultaneously to avoid “manga-manga business”.

SEDIBENG.- As far as TOUCHLINE, all these years or seasons, the clubs that are fighting for the title or relegation would play their last games of the last Premiership League season simultaneously on the last day. It is not a rule but common sense to avoid match fixing especially for those teams that are fighting for relegation at the bottom.

I guess Maritzburg United have a case against PSL after they were forced to play their last game of the season ahead of other teams against Mamelodi Sundowns which ended in a draw. Maritzburg United’s case against PSL is justifiable looking at the previous season.

Maritzburg United’s game against Mamelodi Sundowns was forced to play ahead of the rest of the PSL clubs because Sundowns was involved in the CAF Championship League semi-finals second leg on Saturday.   However, PSL could have postponed all their domestic league matches for midweek so that all the games could play at the same time.

The problem with our football is that television also decides when and what time PLS games should be played. This is the biggest problem with our football! Like it or not, Maritzburg United have all the right to challenge PSL’s decision to play their last game of the season which was crucial ahead of other teams especially those who were fighting relegation with United.

It is safe to say, Maritzburg have got the PSL with their “balls” and it is very interesting what will be the outcome of the DC on this matter. I’m not a legal expert, but this is a common practice not only in South Africa but the whole world that the crucial games of the last season play simultaneously to avoid “manga- manga business”.

PSL have shot themselves in the feet for not being consistent when it matters most and now relegation must be decided on in the boardroom. How so?

They could have avoided this, to say the least. I think somebody underestimated the club for making such a decision that was a matter of life and death on the side of Maritzburg United.

TOUCHLINE will be watching this as it is unfolding to see who will be laughing last, Maritzburg United or PSL.

For now, let me take a chair, sit and watch
