Five suspects arrested following a botched robbery in Evaton

"Due to the high volume of traffic and children in the street, it was decided to do a takedown before the tobacco vehicle and its escort arrived."

EVATON.-  Five suspects have been arrested after a robbery was foiled in Evaton on Wednesday.

It is said that the Sedibeng K9 unit members together with the other units received Information of a planned robbery on a vehicle from a British American tobacco company in the Evaton area and the members were placed in strategic positions around the area Evaton North where the robbery was going to take place.

Police Spokesperson, Constable Thulisile Msibi said that the suspects’ vehicle with five suspects came and parked on the corner of Welgevonden Road and Rabotapi Street, waiting for the tobacco vehicle.

“Five suspects were arrested and an unlicensed firearm with fifteen rounds was recovered. Additional members with unmarked vehicles were then sent to check if any vehicle/s were following the tobacco vehicle and its escort but none were found.”

Msibi said that the suspects were immediately arrested and a case of unlicensed firearm and live ammunition was opened for further investigation.
