Man hacked to death, body dumped next to a church in Evaton

A body of a 25-year-old Omly Mpofu was found dumped in an open veld, near a church in Evaton North on Saturday. According to sources close to the incident, shuttered skull bones, and pieces of brain were found near his lifeless body, swimming in a pool of blood.

EVATON – A 25-year-old man was hacked to death in Evaton North, and his body was found dumped in an open veld next to a church.

According to police, the deceased was discovered by a recycler who was picking up plastic containers on Saturday morning, May 13.

The body of a man identified as Omly Mpofu, was found with multiple open wounds, and his skull was alleged to be fractured.

According to sources close to the case, Mpofu was taken by a group of men at his home in Evaton, after accusing him of stealing copper cables.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, police spokeswoman Constable Doris Nkosi said a murder case has since been opened by Evaton police.

“An African male was busy collecting plastics at a dumping site in Evaton when he came across a black male lying in an open field. Our officers were contacted, and on arrival at the scene, they discovered a 25-year-old male with injuries on his head,” she said.

Nkosi said local medics certified the man dead with multiple open wounds on his head.

“The deceased’s family later came to the scene and alleged that a group of men took the 25-year-old claiming he stole copper cables. Since the day of his disappearance, the man was found murdered,” she said.

Nkosi said investigations are underway and no suspect has been arrested.

“A murder case has been opened and investigations are underway. Anyone who might have information on the incidents is urged to contact Crime Stop on ‪08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App,” she said.
