SA mourns the passing of former Sundowns flamboyant PRO

Many believe that football will not be the same without Shakoane who will go down in the history of South African football as one of the best PSL clubs’ PROs to have graced local football.

SEDIBENG.- Sedibeng football fraternity joined millions of South Africans to mourn the passing of one of the South African football flamboyant PRO’s, Alex “Gold Finger” Shakoane.

This former Mamelodi Sundowns ex-Public Relation Officer (Communication Manager) passed away on Sunday (8 May) after suffering from a stroke. Shakoane was one of the PSL clubs’ PROs who will spark controversy long before the kick-off, especially against Sundown’s bitter rivals such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

He was popularly known for the gold rings around his fingers which resulted in his nickname “Gold Finger” in the football circle. He was the longest-serving member of Mamelodi Sundowns since the 70s with the club became a household in South African football.

SAFA President Danny Jordaan is one of the football administrators who described Shakoane as an icon of South African football. He said Shakoane served football with distinctions and he will be remembered for his character, especially his humour.
