School launches nutritional program to benefit learners

The production center aims to create more jobs for community members and supply other schools with milk and yogurt.

DE DEUR. – Best is Good Enough Primary School has launched a production center for Soya mild and yogurt and an added nutritional value for children that are part of the feeding scheme.

Last year, the school received a visit from Dietician and Professor at Texas Tech University, Allison Childress. Childress conducted research that focuses on food addiction, hunger, protein quality, and sports nutrition.

Childress said: “This is part of a study abroad program. I have brought students from the university to study nutrition. The visit aims to teach the children at the school about nutrition.”

Childress further said that she has been working with the school to create a nutrition program and has also taught parents about the benefits of nutrition.

School Principal Matlhare Mochela said: “The production center aims to create more jobs for community members and supply other schools with milk and yogurt. Mochela said this would help when the government has delays with supplying food for the school’s feeding scheme.

The school received a donation of a generator, machinery, and soya beans to assist the school with its Soya Garden.

Following the launch, Mochela thanked all stakeholders for helping to make the project a success.

“I am happy that the school now has its feeding scheme. No child will starve and all kids will eat healthy food daily.”

Mochela states that the project will be able to yield employment opportunities for unemployed parents.
