Boxing Championships Tournament in Sharpeville

"We make a special plea to the community to come in numbers to support this event."

SHARPEVILLE.-  The Sedibeng Boxing Organisation in conjunction with Emfuleni Local Municipality Sports Department will host Boxing Championships at Sharpeville Boxing Club inside the Masunapapa building on Saturday.

This was announced by the Emfuleni Local Municipality Boxing Coordinator Thandoxolo Madikizela who invited the Sharpeville community, young and old to come in big numbers to support this boxing championship.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Madikizela said they take boxing to the Sharpeville community in an attempt to promote the development of this sport in the Emfuleni community. He believes there is a need to continue to revive boxing in the community to attract more talent.

“As Sedibeng Boxing Organisation our mission is to revive boxing, especially in the area where boxing was popular. We all know that in the past this township produced great boxers and professional boxing fights used to take place at Sharpeville Hall.

This is one township with rich history apart from boxing, politically as well there is so much to talk about when mentioning this township. We all know what happened in 1969 which made headlines around the whole world.  We also invited local business people to come with the hope to assist the boxing clubs around the area with boxing equipment. Look most of the clubs are struggling when it comes to equipment because they don’t get any form of assistance from the community and businesses,” he concluded.
