Chiefs or Pirates in the Nedbank Cup finals?

The Nedbank Cup semi-finals are scheduled to take place on 6 May.

SEDIBENG.-  Either Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates will meet one of these two teams, Stellenbosch or Sekhukhune United in the finals of the Nedbank Cup.

These Soweto giants have been pitted against each other in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after their respective wins over the weekend. Kaizer Chiefs booked their semi-finals spot after beating Royal AM 2-1 in extra time while Orlando Pirates had to dig deep, to beat the lower division side Dondolo FC on penalty shoots out to book their place in the finals.

There were cheers and excitement among Kaizer Chiefs players and supporters when they were drawn against Orlando Pirates.

The draw was made after Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM game yesterday evening. The last time these two Soweto giants booked their place in the finals of this competition was back in 2019 with Kaizer Chiefs lost in the semi-finals to TS Galaxy which campaigned in the first division by then.

Speaking to the media after their game against Royal AM, Chiefs Coach, Arthur Zwane said he welcomes the draw against their archrivals but warned that it is not going to be easy for them. Kaizer Chiefs has been having an upper hand on Pirates beating them in both the first and second rounds of the DStv Premiership.

However, Zwane said stats mean nothing when it comes to the Soweto derby and they won’t be fooled by the fact that they beat Pirates in their last game. He said cup games are not the same as league matches.

“The difference between the league and cup games is that with cup games there must be a winner but with the league, there is not much pressure. But we will go to this game well prepared because we will be up against the teams that are also eager to finish the season with a trophy in their cabinet,” said Zwane.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns are out of the Nedbank Cup after they lost 2-1 to Stellenbosch.
