VANDERBIJLPARK.- Young and old mothers will form part of the athletes that will participate in the Mother’s Day Fun Run is scheduled to take place at Cecil Oldridge Sports Ground in Vanderbijlpark on 14 May.
This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Bafana Manyika who is the event organizer.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Manyika said this 5km and 10 km Fun Run is part of celebrating Mother’s Day in style. He said this is an important day in the calendar to recognise mothers for their role in the community, especially the single parents who have had to raise children single-handedly or alone.
He revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that the race will take place under the rules of the auspices of Athletics South Africa and Athletics Vaal Triangle. However, Manyika said the 10km participants must be 14 years or older for the race. The participation fee for 5km is R50 while for 10km is R160.
The race starting time is at 7:00.
“We invite all women to come to be part of this historical event to celebrate and recognise their role as mothers in our committee. We invite the Sedibeng community to come in numbers to support this unique initiative. I have no doubt this is going to be the best Mother’s Day celebration for those mothers, young and old. I also encourage men to come in numbers to support this initiative that will celebrate their partners,” he said.
