Youth dominates clean-up campaign in Lakeside

Young people from Lakeside showed up in numbers during a clean-up campaign that was led by Midvaal Local Municipality's MMC for Development and Planning, Mokete Motsamai.

MIDVAAL. – A weekly instalment of “Re sebetsa mmoho” clean-up campaign was dominated by young community volunteers who got their hands dirty in order to keep their environment clean.

This was as Midvaal Local Municipaity MMC for Development and Planning Mokete Motsamai led the campaign  working together with the Community Work Programme (CWP) in Lakeside. The team visited several dumping areas in Lakeside and cleaned them up.

The recently launched ‘Re sebetsa mmoho’ clean-up campaign. takes place on various days of the week in Lakeside, Sicelo and Savanna City.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Motsamai said the joint outreach and campaign is expected to change people’s behaviour towards responsible management of waste and keeping their neighborhoods clean, green, and safe.

“It is of utmost importance to me that we all take part in ensuring an environment that is not harmful to the health and well-being of our people. We encourage our residents and businesses to keep the environment clean, and to optimize environmental awareness and the cleaning efforts in our communities.

”The campaign is picking up momentum and has been dominated by young volunteers from our community. We also urge people to help by just cleaning up in front of their yards every morning.”

Motsamai thanked those who took part, adding that it was good to see young people actively taking a stand to enhance cleanliness in their community,
