URC members donate school uniform to Matsie-Steyn pupils

"As we approach the winter season jerseys and track suites would be appreciated.”

SHARPEVILLE.- The principal and staff at the Matsie-Steyn Kopanong Primary School have sent their thanks to the members of the Uniting Reformed Church (URC) in Sharpeville.

The URC members donated school uniforms to both boy and girl pupils of the school recently. The church members said that the Regional Synod of the church encouraged the congregation in the Southern Synod region to adopt schools in their towns, the main purpose being to form good relationships with the community.

“We decided to adopt Matsie-Steyn Primary School the name Matsie-Steyn is related to our former ministers Rev Matsie and Rev Steyn. The project is ongoing, and when we have collected more uniforms, we will be donating them to the school.  We are appealing to the community and the congregants to donate if they do have uniforms that are still in good condition,” the members said.

Majane Nhlapo, Matsie-Steyn Kopanong Primary School Principal said that they are thankful to the church and feel blessed that they were ‘the chosen ones’.

“We are thankful that churches are going back to the people. The churches play an important role when it comes to the community, the children here at the school are from the same community that the church serves,” said Nhlapo.

She further added that we should go back to the time when there used to be assemblies at school, “Where the word of the Lord was shared with pupils, thereby setting them on the right path.”

“We are a caring church, and we are building a relationship between the school and the church. The church is spreading the love that we have freely received from  Christ. It is towards the Passover when we are reminded that Jesus died for us on the cross, that’s the love we are showing, John 16: 3.”
