Bonaventure Centre helps unemployed youth

The center gives the youth in the Vaal an opportunity to learn a skill to better equip them to get a job or become entrepreneurs.

BARRAGE. –  The unemployed youth of Sedibeng (Vaal) have been dealt a lucky hand by the St. Bonaventure Skills and Training Centre that is based in Barrage.

Carpentry and joinery, welding, and sewing skills are being taught at this non-profit training center. The BBB-E rated center, which is the brainchild of Roman Catholic’s Father Dr. Clement recently took in new interns and plans to be sustainable by selling its products and services and by seeking donations.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster the center’s Maureen Stewart said that trainees learn different kinds of trades such as doing hand-crafted products in solid wood which include carved doors and furniture crafted from a variety of woods, welding services for the construction of carports, and basic sewing.

“Fr. Dr Clement’s passion is to improve the lives of unemployed youth and build bridges between those who have and have not. We want to develop people to be able to get jobs. The craftsmanship being taught is excellent. We welcome visitors who have a need for such craftsmanship to visit the center and see the quality of work for themselves,” she said.
