Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Radebe said the municipality visited the family as a show of support.

“We decided to visit the family to show our support as the municipality and promise the family that as rescue searchers are doing their job, we will make sure we are there with them. The family complained that there hasn’t been any update from all authorities, so we going to make sure they are kept informed” he said.

With more heavy rainfalls expected in some parts of the province, Radebe warned residents in flood lines to remain cautious at all times.

“We are expecting more heavy rains in this region and this was a warning issued by weather services. So we urge our residents, especially those on the flood lines to practice safety and people should refrain from crossing rivers to avoid having such cases as Samkelo’s,” he said.

Annah Katu (52) aunt to missing Samkelo said she was happy to house the government in their home.

“We had lost hope and seeing the Acting Mayor visiting us gives hope. Our police have failed us because they never bother to give us feedback. The mayor promised to help us in making sure that we always get feedback from all relevant stakeholders. The municipality promised to send people who will counsel us and help deal with our trauma,” she said.

Katu said all they want as the family is the body of Samkelo.

“I can’t sleep at night and I can’t eat. My soul is troubled. All I want is to get help in finding the bone of my nephew,” said the weeping aunt.
