Emfuleni Vaal Chess Association prepares future stars

“For each event even if it wasn’t rated there were prizes awarded to the players that performed well."

SEDIBENG.- Even though there have been challenges, Chess development and training in the area has never stopped.

The Emfuleni Vaal Chess Association (EVCA) is working in partnership with the Sedibeng East and West Districts of the Department of Education, the Gauteng Department of Sports Art’s Culture and Recreation (Vereeniging South Corridor), and the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) SACRLIS in ensuring that the fostering of the youth development in the sport is taking place.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Lefu Lepota the standing president of Emfuleni Vaal Chess Association said that EVCA believes that Chess is an intellectual mind game and a social and educational sport that is the tool to be used in ensuring that young people are not left idling in the streets with nothing to do because it is also a mass participants sporting code.

“To our community, we say please let’s support our kids in whatever way and help them to discover their talent so that we know what they’re good at. We know that most business entities are focused on entertainment sports which are is all about making money through the number of spectators, but our sporting code is not about spectators it about the players themselves and that is why it accommodates many participants, said Lepota.

He adds that EVCA has been arranging many public games which were non-rated but which added value to their programs.

“We once again successfully managed to organize the TRIO-PROVINCE SOCIAL COHESION GAMEs last December, held in Evaton at Mafatsane Local Community Hall.”

As a youth representative office bearer in the Sedibeng Chess Federation EXCO and on behalf of Emfuleni Vaal Chess Association, Lepota said.

“ I humbly want to thank all stakeholders whom we built a good relationship with, and also who have been supporting us with donations and funding in ensuring that our events become successful. May they continue to do so in helping us to build a South Africa with responsible and better society members.”
