BREAKING: One murdered, two brutally beaten during a mob justice attack in Evaton

Residents of Evaton woke up to a crime scene in the early hours of Wednesday, February 15, when one man was killed during an alleged mob justice attack and two brutally beaten.

EVATON – According to residents, the trio is accused of plunging the kasi into darkness, as they steal copper electricity cables.

Helpless screams of the beaten trio woke sleeping who left their homes to witness what was happening.

Police and medics had a field day when they responded to the complaint about the assault of people at corner Lind and West Road and Avondale Road.

Scores of bystanders stood and watched at the two different crime scenes as police investigated the scene.

In one scene, a lifeless body of one of the three victims lied in the middle of Lind Street covered in brown linens.

Speculations are that, he was dragged and beaten by a group of angry residents.

The other two African males between the ages between 20 and 25 who were badly assaulted were rushed to local hospitals.

Lerato Mofokeng, a resident in the area said “I was sleeping around 06:00 AM when I heard a man scream on Lind Road. I went out to check what was happening and all I could see is a man lying in the ground,” she said.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sedibeng Cluster Police spokeswoman Constable Thulisile Msibi said two cases were opened.

“We are investigating a murder case and assault GBH, investigations are underway. No arrests have been made at the moment,” she said.

Police are at the scene for further investigation.
