VEREENIGING. –  A random school search at General Smuts High School in Vereeniging has resulted in the discovery of various drugs such as dagga, codeine and ecstasy on Tuesday morning.

A source that did not want to be named confirmed that some of the drugs were discovered by members after they went inside classes during the search operation.

“It is true that drugs were discovered at the school this morning. The police were here with various stakeholders. This is part of the work that needs to be done in order to ensure a conducive learning environment for all the pupils.”

Sedibeng District Community Safety Forum’s Peter Kele said the random search nearly collapsed because of the leaked information regarding the operation adding that the forum would sit and properly plan other operations to address problems at general smuts.

Police spokesperson Constable Nonhlanhla Nkosi says, ” Two knives, eleven ziplogs of Dagga, five Painagon Syrup containers and pills were found and confiscated.”

Nkosi said a liquor operation which was carried out at the same time as the school search resulted in one illegal shebeen being shut down and an undisclosed amount of liquor confiscated.
