Eligwa Swimming Club to host swimming program for schools

"There is a need for swimming to be formally introduced at schools."

SHARPEVILLE.- The Eligwa Swimming Club will host a swimming program for school at the Sharpeville Swimming pool on 11 and 12 February.

This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Tshepo Koatla who initiated this school program.

Koatla said that this program is aimed at introducing swimming at school level as part of sporting activities.

“Look, just like soccer, I believe swimming must be introduced at school level because this sport is part of the Olympics, and starting to teach them (youth) swimming at school level should be a must. As Eligwa Swimming Club we intend to form partnerships with schools and teach these learners how to swim.”

Koatla further said that apart from swimming being an Olympic sport, it is always important for kids to know how to swim because we are living at times when floods have become a problem in our community and children need to know survival skills.

“Again there are dams around that are left unattended so if anything happens at least they will be able to save themselves,” he concluded.
