Jealousy by ‘baby mama’ allegedly led to the killing of Vaal pregnant couple

The three suspects linked to the kidnapping and killing of Vaal couple, Kiwiet Mokoena (35) and Nokuphila Dladla (29), appeared briefly in Heidelberg Magistrate court on Wednesday, 25, 2023.

Heidelberg – Zama Williams (30), the now famous alleged ‘killer’ baby-mama, together with her two co-accused, Shakespeare Sibanda and Sandile Khumalo’s case was postponed to the 30th of January, 2023 (Monday) for a formal bail application for Williams. The duo males, both aged 32, abounded their bail application.

Nokuphila Dladla (22) and Kiwiet Mokoena (35) went missing on the 14th of December from their home in Vanderbijlpark.

Efforts made to find the couple didn’t materialize and the highly pregnant couple was found ten days later, with their bodies, badly decomposed. Filling the court gallery, family and friends of the couple, patiently waited to see the 30-year-old Williams together with her co-accused.

When their matter was postponed and the trio went back to their cells, a sign of relief and distant cheer could be heard from the crowd. Following the appearance, Sedibeng Ster spoke to Dladla’s mother, Mpie Dladla (50), who shared her emotions on her first time seeing Williams since the incident.

“When I saw her [Zama] for the first time in court, I thought I would cry, be angry, and raged. For some reason, I felt sorry for her. I don’t think she knew what she was doing and where it will end her,” she said.

Mpie said all she wants is justice for both her daughter and Kiwiet.

“All I want is justice for my daughter, my unborn grandchild, and Kiwiet. We were so happy and had already named our grandchild, Asiphesona Iminathi. We are now robbed as a family since they are no more. I am robbed of the only love I knew,” she said.

Asked what could have led to the killing of the couple, Mpie said ‘jealousy’ drove the double murder motive.

“My daughter had never met Zama. Instead, she should have been grateful that her 6-year-old son was mothered by someone he loved. I can’t think of anything that could have led to my daughter’s killing. Jealousy is the reason we are here today,” she said.

Audrey Matselane, Mokoena’s cousin said: “Kiwiet was happy to be in a new relationship. When he told us of Mimi [Nokuphila], you could tell he was in a happy place.  On the day of Zama’s arrest, our brother received a call that Mohapi should fetch the child because she was planning to go to Mpumalanga. Our relatives fetched the child and he couldn’t stop crying. When he asked the boy why he was crying, he said Zama told him that his father went to heaven,” she said.

“We didn’t believe the story until we got a call that the suspects in the killing of the couple were arrested, we found Zama among those,” she said.

Matselane said jealousy was the reason for their killing.

“We want justice for the couple. Zama robbed us. The couple was still young and had a whole future ahead of them,” she said.
