Time for lip-service is over!

"Our football will remain stuck because people who are supposed to lead us in front, shy away from taking responsibility."

SEDIBENG.- I’m not into New Year compliments, but I have expectation for the year 2023 as far as our development of sports is concerned, and as a matter of fact, the time for paying lip-service is over and we must walk the talk this year if we are about to move our development of sports to the next level so that we can compete against the best in the world.

As a nation, we can’t be seeing doing the same things year after year or every year like we are in a ‘vicious circle’.  For example, our national teams, in particularly football have been stuck in the same place for years now. We are not moving as a football nation as we are supposed to, like other nations, with Bafana Bafana forever disappointing us. The re-election of Danny Jordaan as the SAFA President is not benefiting our football.  His re-election into power has nothing to do with football but everything to do with people’s stomachs.

TOUCHLINE blames former professional players who allow for us to be led by people who have no football interest in their hearts. For example, Lucas Radebe is some of the former football great who is supposed to lead from the front due to his international experience. Chief, as Radebe was affectionately called in England by those who admired him playing for Leeds needs no introduction in South African football as one of the ex-professional players who is capable to lead our football nation. In fact, at one stage there was a call for ex-professionals to take over and run our football specifically SAFA but now their silence is too loud to say the least.

Some of the African country’s ex-professionals are leading from the front and Cameroon Football Association is one of them that is lead by an ex-professional players, Samuel Eto. Why not with our football taking into consideration the ex-professionals we have in our door steps?

I’m not into New Year resolutions but these above mentioned factors are long overdue to be considered if we are serious to compete against the powerhouses of football in the world. As a football nation we are far behind the rest regardless of the resources we have as a country. We are far better compared to other African countries when it comes to playing facilities but those with less resource have achieved more than us.

Sick!
