Former soccer star’s sister missing for a month

Former South African footballer Bennet Chenene’s sister, Nomvula Chenene, is missing and the family is appealing for her safe return.

LAKESIDE – The 28-year-old was last seen in her neighborhood in Lakeside on the 10 December 2022.

Ever since her disappearance, her family has been been praying and hoping to see her entering the door. Despite weekly rumours that the missing third born was seen in areas such as Orange Farm and Sebokeng, the family claim their efforts in finding her have never materialised.

When Sedibeng Ster arrived at the family home on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, her mother was sitting adjacent to the window as Nomvula’s family and close friends went to look for her in Kwaggastroom where she is presumed to be roaming. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the mother, Nthabiseng Chenene (58) said that they have tried all they could to find their missing daughter.

Missing, Nomvula Chenene.

“We have been in all mortuaries, hospitals, open spaces and malls around Gauteng to look for Nomvula without success. People have been to our home telling us where they think they might have seen her, but we didn’t find her when we went to look,” she said.

When she was last seen, Nomvula was with a couple of friends on her street before disappearing.

“She asked to go hangout with her friends from our neighborhood since it was holiday time. She is missing for a month now and all our efforts are not materialising. We are left in fear and wonder if she is still alive,” said the worried mom.

“You see me sitting next to the window, it’s because her siblings and friends have left to look for her in Kwaggastroom. I am sitting here with hope that she will walk in. By now, we know all sorts of dead bodies. Every time we hear of a dead people said to be found in and around Vaal, we go check if its not her. We recently went to a scene where a person was found dead inside a ceiling and found that it wasn’t her,” she said.

Nthabiseng said she frequently prays for her daughters return.

“I am left worried because there is no place we haven’t been to. I just wonder if she is alright and what is happening to her livelihood. I pray every day that she comes back home unharmed,” she said.

Police Spokeswoman, Seargent Tintswalo Ndhambi said a missing persons file has been opened.
