“Black Christmas” for Sebokeng residents

“Eskom’s management is taking us for granted, they have been making promises each time we meet them but they have not fulfilled them."

SEBOKENG. – The Zone 10 Extension 3, Ward 36 residents marched to the national electricity supplier, Eskom offices at Houtkop in Sebokeng on Monday morning.

This was to demand the installation of a vandalised transformer in their area. The residents have now been without electricity for approximately, seven months and they are facing a “black Christmas”. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the residents said that they are demanding that electricity be restored in the area within 72 hours because, as requested by Eskom, they had met the 60% threshold of paying a requested amount of R500 per household.

“We want electricity, we can not go into the new year without electricity,” the residents said.

DA member, Daddy Mollo also arrived on the scene to plead the residents’ case with the Eskom officials.

“We called the DA here to help us, because we have seen in some areas where they have helped people. The ruling party is useless, they are not doing anything for us,” said the residents.

An Eskom representative came out of the offices and spoke to the residents promising that their issue is being attend to.

“We are attending to your issue as you are number four on the list of areas where transformers need to be implemented. Please do not be violent or swear at us because in reality you can not be needing help and then turn violent against the very same people that need to come to your area and provide help,” he said.

In the end the group of residents returned home with the hope and promise that their matter is being attended to.
