Gathered outside the Qwabe family home in Lakeside, the entourage was briefed on the incident by the grandfather of deceased Madonsela.

Harmonic voices singing church songs could be heard from the house during the visit as the mayor was briefed.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Radebe explained his purpose for the visit to the family and how he can help.

“We got a report on the incident about the 11-year-old boy who died. My office decided we should visit the family, also have a site visit where the boy was befallen by this tragic incident,” he said.

“We want to assure the family that we are really touched by the incident and will do everything to help.,” he added.

Radebe said the municipality will give feedback after viewing the construction report on why the pipes remained on the site.

“What happened is really sad. The municipality will give a feedback report to the family on why those pipes where still there and the contractor in charge must be in a position what happened. When I got here, the pipes where removed. If those pipes were removed, the negligence couldn’t have happened,” he said.

“We will be assisting the family where we can on their demands. I will keep in contact with the family until the last day of the burial,” said Radebe.

Ward Councillor Mochawe said he has been complaining about the pipes being left after the project stopped.

“I tried to engage the contract and the municipality on those pipes since the contractor abandoned the site. No one ever took my request serious. Now a family lost their son because of the same pipes. Some one must account who needs to take responsibility of the incident. All I want is to see the family getting justice for loosing their son,” he said.
