A 68-year-old man found murdered in his home with hands and feet tied

In the early hours of Monday, December 5, 2022, a 68-year-old Patrick Mahlatsi was found murdered in his Zone 11, Sebokeng home.

SEBOKENG – According to the family, the deceased was discovered by another member of the family who stays in an outside shack.

The relative decided to check on Patrick in the house after not seeing him since Saturday.

When he entered the house, he found the deceased covered in a blanket with his hands and feet tied together.

Speaking Sedibeng Ster, Tsatsi Tseke (44) family spokesman and nephew to the deceased told the paper that the mystery death left them devastated and seeking answers as he described his uncle as a peaceful man.

“We found my uncle murdered in the house, with his hands and legs tied. The man had no wounds, no signs of strangulation. We believe that the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning because some of the neighbors claim to hear noise on that morning but didn’t think it came from our uncle’s home,” he said.

The visibly distraught Tseke said cops found shoes in the house which left the family with dozens of questions without answers.

“Up to this far we don’t know what had happened to him, however there are shoes found in the crime scene that didn’t belong to my uncle. A lady’s shoe and a sneaker were found, off which, the old man doesn’t have such shoes,” he said.

Tseke said the family is left distraught and seeking assistance from anyone who may have information on what happened to come forward.

“The matter is still under investigation. We will probably hear after the investigation and postmortem what might have happened. We are broken as the man was the last standing member in the family ten siblings. We are saddened and want justice to prevail,” he said.

Sebokeng police spokesman Captain Teboho Lephoto said a robbery and murder case has been opened.

“We can confirm that a case of house robbery and murder will be investigated after a man in his sixties was found murdered in his home. Few items were found missing in the house,” he said.

“At this moment, no suspect has been arrested and investigations are underway. Anyone who has information should contact the police on 08600 1000 or 016 988 1340,” said Lephoto.
