SEDIBENG. – 24-year-old Mongezi Shange was today sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after stabbing his mother multiple times, ultimately killing her.
The incident happened on 14 December 2021 at their home in Boipatong.
Shange was given another year imprisonment for assaulting his stepfather who tried to stop him from killing his mother.
The sentencing took place at the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court in Katlehong.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster following the court proceedings, Shange’s aunt Sibongile Shange said she was not happy about the sentence.
“We are not happy about the sentence, but there’s nothing we can do.
“The investigating officer Moss Mogajane did everything in his power to bring us justice but unfortunately, this is the result.”
Shange has been prohibited from using drugs while in jail, he is further banned from possessing a firearm.
