Suspect kills accomplice in botched hijacking

A commotion ensued as the thugs tried to restrain the man.

SEBOKENG. –A botched hijacking ended up in one of the suspects being shot dead by his accomplice. The incident happened on Monday night in Zone 7.

One of the suspects who was armed, sat at the back of the combi with the victim while two more led and drove the stolen white Toyota Quantum. The brave taxi driver, whose name is known to Sedibeng Ster, tried to fight the armed robber who hit him with the bud of the gun in the back of his head.

During the battle the firearm went off hitting one of the suspects who was driving the vehicle at the time. This resulted in the taxi to loosing control, subsequently plunging into house in Sebe Street.

When the two surviving suspects realised their blunder, they deserted the taxi and fled the scene on foot. Residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud gunshot followed by a banging sound when the car hit the walls.  Police in Evaton are now searching for two suspects following the incident.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, police spokesperson Constable Doris Nkosi said that a docket of car hijacking and an inquest have been opened.

“The shot suspect who was driving the taxi was hit on the back and died at the scene. Paramedics were called and declared him dead. A manhunt for two suspects who fled the scene is activated and members of the community are urged to please come forward with any information that can help to apprehend the suspects.
