Three arrested following fatal shooting of police officer in De Deur

The Hawks have arrested three suspects for the brutal murder of Sedibeng Vispol officer Sergeant Vuyani Vivian Ngcobo.

SEDIBENG. – Three suspects have been apprehended and will make an appearance at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

This follows the fatal shooting of Sedibeng Vispol officer Sergeant Vuyani Vivian Ngcobo (48) on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha reports that Ngcobo together with his colleague were attending to a complaint of suspected drug dealers in Weilersfarms when he was killed.

According to Ramovha, the officers were shot at as they approached the given address.

“The officers were met by one suspect who randomly fired shots at them, leading to Ngcobo’s death. The second police officer survived unscathed.

“Following the incident, the Vaal Rand Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation mobilised resources.

“On Thursday, the team comprising of Crime Intelligence Gathering, Tactical Response Team, Highway Patrol Unit, Sedibeng Infrastructure Task Team and Midvaal Peace Officers piloted an operation which resulted in the arrest of the three suspects at Kanana Park, ” he said.

Ramovha states that a defiled pistol was seized from one of the suspects who was shot and wounded upon his arrest.

The Gauteng Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa sent his deepest condolences to Ngcobo’s family.

Kadwa further applauded the team for their efforts in ensuring that perpetrators are brought to book.
