Local teams represent Sedibeng at Sundowns development tournament

Local development teams represented Sedibeng at the Mamelodi Sundowns development tournament held at Clapham High School in Pretoria over the weekend.

SEDIBENG.- This two day tournament was divided into two groups for each age group with the u/12 and u/14 tournament played on Saturday, and the u/16 tournament played on Sunday.

It was a memorable experience for the local development teams such as Celeb Academy (Sharpeville), Nale Academy (Vanderbijlpark) and Vaal Octopus Development FC from Sebokeng.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Lunga Nobela who is the tournament Coordinator said the final is scheduled to take place on Saturday. Nobela was pleased with the overall performance of all the participating teams. In addition to inviting teams from outside Gauteng, they plan to make this an annual event. He believes there is a need for such a tournament for the development coaches to exchange contacts and notes while competing against each other. Some of the teams that took part in the tournament include, Mamelodi Sundowns, Clapham High School, Rekaofela Academy, Eleven Stars FC, Sqcwele FC, X12 United, Relebogile Primary School, Labyrinth FC and Napoli FC to mention but few.
It was football galore for two days with parents travelling from as far as Sedibeng to come to support their children.

“I want to thank everyone who honoured our invitation to be part of this tournament and they made this tournament a resounding success. It was not about winning but promoting the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship while playing this beautiful game. We want to make it bigger and more successful next year and I believe with your support we are able to achieve our objective,” said Nobela.
