MIDVAAL. – Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) recently prevented yet another illegal occupation of its land in Doornkuil.
MLM’s MMC for Development and Planning, Mokete Motsamai reports that about 30 illegal shacks constructed by invaders were successfully demolished by the Municipality’s Security Service Provider within just hours of the occupation.
“Properties in Doornkuil which is one of the land invasion “hotspot” areas were targeted to be invaded by a group of people.”
Motsamai adds that building materials delivered on site for the construction of additional illegal shack structures were also confiscated.
MLM says it encourages the property owners to protect their properties by fencing and putting up a signage’s that say “Private Property, Trespassers will be prosecuted” as this would assist in a case where the municipality to get involved.
Motsamai encouraged communities in need of housing opportunities to visit the Department of Human Settlement offices in apply for housing opportunities instead of illegally invading land.text
Motsamai previously condemned land invasion, saying that it is not aimed at addressing the housing plight of communities but rather an enrichment scheme that will benefit criminals.
