Give credit where it is due!

My Editor, in his oipinion piece, recently wrote that: "We must give credit where it is due”,this is exactly what TOUCHLINE intends to do.

Real Hearts FC has proven to be a thorn to many in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League in recent years. The breaking news are that, Real Hearts FC will represent Sedibeng at the Inter Regional Nedbank Cup play-offs. This Heidelberg based team defied the odds when they became overall winners for Safa Sedibeng in the preliminary Nedbank Cup last weekend.

Last season the same Real Hearts FC were crowned the Safa Sedibeng SAB League champions for the 2021/2022 season. Ironically, despite all their effort, blood and sweat, they were denied a lifetime opportunity to represent this region at the Provincial Promotional play-offs due to maladministration which saw SAB League being declared null and void. For years now, Real Hearts FC has been consistence and among the teams that challenge for the the SAB League season after season.

Point, in case, last season it was a two horses race between them and VUT FC in their stream. TOUCHLINE has noted with interest that there is something special about this team taking into consideration that they always challenge for the league or represent this region at the promotional play-offs and this tells you something about the club’s structure and professionalism. They have been consistent in their performance season after season in the Safa Sedibeng SAB League. Some of the teams have just added numbers  in the league because in the first place some of those teams didn’t deserve to be promoted to the SAB League. Too many teams were promoted in the SAB League even if some of them didn’t deserve to be promoted. It was a matter of adding the numbers in the league which has affected the standard of football in SAB League.

To make it worse, for the past three seasons there was no relegation in Safa Sedibeng with some teams finishing at the bottom of the log and the next season find themselves in the same league. Nowhere in the world can the league play without relegation apart.  Real Hearts FC once again will be representing this region in the Nedbank Cup and TOUCHLINE can only hope that the club will go all the way to the last sixteen of this competition just like VUT FC once did. This is achievable and VUT FC showed us that anything is possible when they beat Golden Arrows to book their place in the last sixteen of this competition.

In short, TOUCHLINE wishes Real Hearts FC all the best and I wish we are not going to experience another comedy like last season where Safa Sedibeng league will be declared null and void again. TOUCHLINE hopes Real Hearts FC have all the necessary requirements because TOUCHLINE is aware that the teams didn’t use the “no card no play” rule.

It seems as if we never learn from our previous mistakes!
