Parents of four teens killed in horrific Vanderbijlpark accident want justice

The incident happened in July this year but parents say they are yet to receive a court date.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The parents of four teens who died in a horrific accident in Vanderbijlpark on July 23 say they are yet to be given a date for the court hearing.

Katleho Pitjeng (18), Sanele Mokoena (14), Itumeleng Xaba (16) and Tshepang Nonyane (15) were  killed when a vehicle plunged into them when they were walking home from a failed event in Bedworth Park. The incident happened at around 00:30 on Barrage Road and Westinghouse.

A parent known to this publication said that police had not kept them in the loop about the developments in the homicide investigation.

“I know nothing will bring my child back but I need justice to be served. I just need to see the person who killed my son. It has been three months now but we have not heard anything.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said the case was not enrolled in court.

“This is due to a number of queries which still need to be finalised such as  blood results and the report from the accident unit.

“The investigating officer was instructed by the station commander Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa to keep the families updated on the progress of the case, as per our Batho Pele principles.

“The case is not closed and investigations are still continuing, such cases take time and we shall not rest until justice is served,” Makhale concludes.
