Local poet stabbed by ITA driver

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) has been opened against an Internal Taxi Association (ITA) taxi driver who is said to be on the run after stabbing a young poet from Polokong outside Sebokeng over the weekend.

SEDIBENG.– The poet, Thulo Mcgina, was apparently invited to perform in Bophelong when he, together with his dancers requested the driver to transport them and he agreed, he was apparently paid a return fee.

Later when he went to collect the group he was said to be drunk and wanted to be paid again. That is when an argument apparently ensued. The group then walked from the Bophelong Hall to a nearby fourway stop. While waiting there for an alternative transport to take them home the ‘drunk’ driver is said to have suddenly appeared and stabbed Mcgina in the hand and stomach and threatened to shoot him. Mcgina is said to have fallen and became unconscious and he was then taken to hospital.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster , Thulo’s sister, Gladys Mcgina, said that they have reported the stabbing to ITA officials who have said that they have not seen the driver since the alleged incident.

“All that we want is justice for my brother,” said Gladys.

An ITA official, who did not want to be named said that the case has been taken to the Disciplinary Committee (DC) that sat yesterday (Wednesday), however, at the time of going to print its outcome was not known.
