Thugs take R12 000 from street vendor, shoot driver

A driver of an NP 200 van was shot recently when armed thugs ambushed a man he was meant to pick up. The group was headed to the market where they were going to stock up on fruits and vegetables.

TSHEPISO. –  Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sedibeng Cluster cop spokeswoman Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said “a Congolese man was waiting for his colleagues to pick him up and go to a market. While he was jumping on the bakkie, he was approached by two men with firearms. One proceeded to the front and pointed three occupants of the NP200 Nissan van while the other pointed the victim,” she said.

The suspect was searched, and robbed money estimated around R12 000.

“While the man in the back of the bakkie was being robbed, the one suspect who was in the front, tried to open doors and rob the three other occupants at gunpoint,” she said.

“The man shot at the window of the vehicle and the driver was wounded and taken to a local hospital. We are investigating an attempted murder case and armed robbery. No suspect was arrested,” said Maxambela.
