Tshepiso man to be jailed for 21 years after murdering wife

The Palm Ridge High Court has sentenced convicted murderer Sakhile Phangalele (45) to a direct imprisonment of 21 years and six months.

SHARPEVILLE. – Phangalele was found guilty of the murder of his enstranged wife Mpona Alice Motubatuba (39).Phangalele was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.

On 22 December 2021, Phangalele went to his wife’s home in Tshepiso Phase 3 and stabbed her multiple times, killing her in cold blood.  Following the incident, Phangalele fled but was later caught by outraged members of the community.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela says, “Phangalele violated a protection order which had been granted to the victim in July 2014. Boipatong members arrested the suspect and the investigation officer Warrant Officer Mmolawa Moses Mogajane  carried out a diligent investigation.”

Boipatong SAPS Station Commander Mnini Molotsi has since applauded the excellent investigation carried out by Mogajane.

“The conviction will serve as a message to men that GBV has no place in South Africa.  We call on all men to protect women and children as is is their duty.”
