Police shut down counterfeit snuff facility in Orange Farm

A female suspect will soon be served with summons to appear in court for the contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act.

ORANGE FARM. – This follows a search and seizure disruptive operation that clamped down on a fully operational facility producing counterfeit taxi-snuff at Drieziek Extension 9 in Orange farm.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Philane Nkwalase says, ” The operation was carried out by the Intellectual Property Rights Section of the Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in partnership with brand protector experts from Spoor & Fisher Attorneys, Crime Intelligence (CI), Sedibeng SAPS Flying Squad and K9 Unit members. The search was executed in line with the Counterfeit Goods Act 37 of 1997.

“The team initially conducted investigations in Midrand on counterfeit taxi-snuff which led to a fully operational facility at Drieziek Extension 9 in Orange farm.”

Nkwalase reports that multiple packets of counterfeit snuff, empty containers, tobacco and other chemicals found were seized for further investigation.

“The suspect be served with J175 summons to appear in court pending the finalization of the criminal and civil cases against her,” Nkwalase concludes.
