APLA shuts down ELM offices

Members of the Azanian People’s Liberation Army (APLA), the military wing of the Pan Africanist Congress(APLA) and Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) took to the streets to shut down all offices of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) starting at the Customer Service Center and ELM main building in the early morning on Monday.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Workers were requested to stop everything and go home.

“All these offices are closed until further notice,” they were told.

The purpose of the shutdown was said to be to shake the municipal officials that APLA, has been waiting for the implementation of the policy to employ military veterans. A peaceful protest was led by Bongane Majola Chairperson of the APLA Majola said this time they want implementation from Municipal Manager, Lucky Leseane, Executive Mayor Sipho Radebe and the Executive Director, Nnete Makhubo. He said several meetings were held and the municipality officials “do not want to come to the party”. Majola told the ELM MMC for Safety, Ndade Mokoena that he himself (Majola) was part of the meetings dealing with the strategic plan on where and how to start with the processes of implementations.

“We have had enough now. Members are getting old, while others die along the line while waiting. We need processes for implementation and that is not a favour for the unemployed members.”

Majola said as long as they are not getting positive feedback from the ELM they wont give up. He further said that they were not asking anyone a favour from the municipalities officials about the implementation of the policy.

“This policy was adopted but why can’t EML implement it, he asked.

Later MMC Mokoena, requested a meeting to be scheduled for later in the afternoon where they agreed to a formal meeting on 5 August. Majola angrily said they would disband the ELM coalition if they were not given attention.
