SEDIBENG.- This national netball championships came to an end at General Hertzog High School in Witbank over the weekend.
Sedibeng finished in tenth place and Nkitseng told Sedibeng Ster Sport that she was not disappointed with the team’s overall performance for the better part of the tournament. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Nkitseng said that they experienced challenges prior to the tournament with some players struggling to come to training. She said that this affected them at the tournament with certain players looking unfit, especially those who couldn’t attend training due to the lack of transport money.
She also revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport that injuries also didn’t make their life easy as many players suffered. Despite this, Nkitseng was full of praise for the team members for their efforts, for the better part of the tournament. She believes that if they had decent preparations, they could have gone all the way to the final and even won the tournament.
“Despite all these challenges our girls gave it their all and I’m proud of them. We all know what our challenges are and one of them is funding which is the most difficult thing in any sporting organisation. I wish this problem could be addressed because it affects the development of sport badly. I challenge big cooperates to invest in the development of our sports or else in future we are going to lose this talent. They (young people) will give up because no one wants to assist them, especially at times like these when they need financial help to represent their region. This is our biggest challenge, especially for those who are involved in the development of sport. This is a national crisis, lack of funding for our development of sports.” said Nkitseng.
