Meyerton SAPS partners with stakeholders to empower young people

The police in Meyerton recently partnered with various stakeholders in hosting a youth empowerment session at Nelsonia Plots.The objective of the session was to equip young people with vital information on dealing with crime in the area.

MEYERTON. – Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi says, ” The Meyerton Family violence, Child protection and Sexual offence(FCS) unit together with the youth crime prevention desk,  Meyerton business forum, Gender-based Violence brigades from the Department of Community Safety, Noma Yini Youth Foundation and Alpha Trauma Centre were some of the stakeholders present at the session.

“The aim of the event was to empower young people and urge them to take the initiative of supporting crime prevention initiatives. Police made a presentation about the types of services they render and all the structures that exist in the SAPS in making the area policeable.

“The Community Policing Forum (CPF) is one of the structures that was presented to the youth. The youth was also told about the youth crime prevention desk and the role it plays in society.  Young people were urged to join the Youth crime prevention desk and given the guidelines on how to be part of the structure and join other young people in bringing change to their communities

“Substance and alcohol abuse, gangsterism, GBV and assaults were also addressed. The youth responded well and showed an interest in working together with the police to make sure that crime eliminated in the Meyerton policing area.
