Visits conducted during Child Protection Week

The police in Boipatong together with Social Crime Prevention, Indibano NGO, Youth Desk, Emfuleni Social Crime, Fire Department, National Prosecuting Authority and the Department of Community Safety recently visited Phuthulla Primary School.

BOIPATONG. – The visit formed part of Child Protection Week which was held under the theme “Let us protect children during Covid-19 and beyond”.

Child Protection Week is commemorated annually in order to raise awareness and for the protection of the rights of children.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela says: “On arrival at the school, children in grade R were addressed. Children were taught about fire safety tips, crime safety tips and other crimes that affect them.

“The children were urged to report to an adult when any form of crime is committed against them. They were further given the numbers of the SAPS, Child Line and those of the fire department.”

Maxambela says children were also given colouring books and informative pamphlets to be given to parents at home. Maxambela reports that the Boipatong policing precinct had a high number of children that were reported missing. “Communities are advised to report missing cases. There is no waiting period to file a missing person’s report.”

The acting Station Commander, Captain Mothabeng Jacob Tsotesi reminded the men and women in blue that child protection is a priority.
