New fire truck for Working on Fire
The Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) has bought a new fire truck for the Working on Fire firefighters to execute their tasks in the area.
MIDVAAL.- Base Manager, Willem Birkenstock for the Vaal Marina said that the team will be using the fire truck for the operational purposes. Soon, Willem explained that the team will commence with the burning of the fire breaks in June. The municipality, he said saw the vital role Working on Fire programme is playing in ensuring the lives and properties are saved from any fire danger.
‘‘The truck has capacity to carry Personal Protective Equipment and a water tanker for the purposes of the fire suppression. The fire truck has brought huge relief because it here to serve the community,’’ he said.
Working on Fire programme’s General Manager in Gauteng Province, Stephen Boyes applauded the base partner for purchasing a firefighting resource because landowners are on the receiving end of the disastrous fires. This, he said will ensure firefighters do their work comfortably. The base partner according to Boyes is showing enthusiasm in the fight against veld fires. He said the move by the municipality to buy the fire truck will ensure firefighters will respond timeously to fire call outs.
‘‘Winter fires will soon start knocking on the farms and plots. This shows that Midvaal is prepared for the winter fire season from all the angels. Kudos to them,’’ he said.
